Can’t Figure Out What’s Wrong? That’s Exactly Where We Come In.

Mystery electrical issues, leaks that appear somewhere other than the source, recurring damage with no clear cause — David has a knack for diagnosing what others can’t and fixing it the right way.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

The Repair Others Walked Away From Without an Answer

Some home problems don’t announce themselves with a clear cause. A wall that stays damp with no visible leak. An outlet that stopped working and the breaker is fine. A floor that bounces in one spot but nowhere else. A door that suddenly won’t latch even though nothing obviously changed.

These are the calls we actually enjoy — because finding the real source of an intermittent or hidden problem requires experience across multiple trades, patience, and a systematic approach. David has solved home issues that three previous contractors failed to diagnose. If we can find it, we’ll tell you clearly what it is and what it takes to fix it.

  • Mystery electrical problems — dead outlets, tripping breakers, intermittent faults
  • Hidden leak tracing — finding water sources that appear elsewhere
  • Structural soft spots — floor, ceiling, or wall areas showing unexplained damage
  • Recurring issues — problems that were ‘fixed’ but came back
  • Second opinions on contractor repair estimates
  • Pre-purchase or pre-renovation assessments of problem areas
  • Diagnosing causes of mold, moisture, or water staining
  • Unusual sounds — identifying causes of creaking, knocking, or dripping
Describe the Problem — We’ll Figure It Out
How We Approach a Problem

Systematic, Not Guesswork

Troubleshooting is a skill built from experience across multiple trades — understanding how plumbing, electrical, structural, and HVAC systems interact. Here’s how a diagnostic visit typically goes.

1

Listen First

We hear the full history of the problem — when it started, what was tried, what changed. Context is often the biggest clue.

2

Inspect Systematically

We look at the obvious areas first, then work outward to related systems. Most hidden causes are visible from a few angles if you know where to look.

3

Identify the Root

We give you a clear answer: what’s causing it, why it happened, and what fixing it actually requires — not just the symptom.

4

Fix or Refer

If the fix is within our scope, we do it. If it requires a specialist, we tell you exactly who and why — you leave knowing what to do next.

Project Examples

Problems We’ve Solved

Water damage diagnosis
Mystery water stain — Norcross, GA Ceiling stain appearing below a second-floor bathroom, but no leak found at the toilet, tub, or supply lines. Traced to a failing wax ring seal — water only appeared during heavy use, drying between showering. Fixed in one visit after three other contractors misdiagnosed it.
Electrical troubleshooting
Dead outlets, no tripped breaker — Lawrenceville, GA Three outlets in a bedroom stopped working. Breaker was fine, panel looked normal. A GFCI outlet in the hall bath — wired in series — had tripped silently. Reset it, the outlets came back. Total time on-site: 25 minutes.
FAQ

Common Questions About Troubleshooting Calls

Do you charge for a diagnostic visit?+
Diagnostic visits are assessed like any other job — we give you an estimate for the inspection and diagnosis. If you proceed with the repair, the diagnostic cost is rolled into the total. If after diagnosis the job turns out to need a specialist, you pay only for the assessment. We’ll tell you upfront what the diagnostic call costs before we come out.
What if you can’t find the cause?+
We’ll tell you plainly if the issue is outside our ability to diagnose on-site — some problems require specialized equipment (thermal imaging, pressure testing, sewer camera) that we don’t carry. When that’s the case, we’ll tell you what type of specialist to call and what to ask them. We don’t guess and bill.
Can you give a second opinion on a contractor estimate?+
Yes. If you’ve received a repair estimate that doesn’t feel right — either the diagnosis, the scope, or the price — we’ll come look at the same problem and give you an independent read. We’ve caught misdiagnoses and unnecessary scope expansions more times than we can count.
Do you handle troubleshooting across all trades?+
Yes — electrical, plumbing, carpentry, structural, HVAC, and moisture issues. Problems often cross trade lines (a moisture issue that shows as an electrical problem, a structural issue that shows as a door problem), and the value of a multi-trade handyman is being able to follow the problem wherever it leads.
Is there a problem too small to call about?+
No. If something in your home is bothering you and you can’t figure out what it is, call us. Some of the most satisfying visits have been short ones where the answer turned out to be simple but no one had looked in the right place.
