Small-Scale Water Damage and Moisture Problems We Handle Directly

Water damage doesn’t always mean disaster-level flooding. Most homeowners encounter a much more common situation: a slow leak found late, condensation that got out of hand, a small pipe drip behind a cabinet that sat too long. These situations cause real damage — softened drywall, moisture trapped in framing, visible mold on surfaces — but they’re typically within the scope of light restoration work rather than full reconstruction.

Cowboy Up handles this middle category. We place dehumidifiers, monitor drying progress, clean up visible mold growth, remove limited amounts of damaged material, and perform the minor repairs needed after the moisture is gone. Every project is assessed individually — we confirm it’s within our scope before any work begins and are straightforward when a situation requires a full restoration company instead.

⚠️ We provide light restoration services for small-scale water and moisture events. We do not handle major flooding, sewage backup cleanup, fire loss, large-loss insurance claims, or projects requiring significant structural reconstruction. If a site inspection reveals a larger scope than expected, we’ll let you know immediately and can help you identify appropriate resources.

What We Do and What We Don’t

Light Restoration — Not Full Disaster Response

Knowing the boundary of a service is as important as knowing what it covers. Here’s an honest breakdown of what falls within our scope and what doesn’t.

✅ Within Our Scope

  • ✓ Slow leak discovered and now fixed — cleanup and drying
  • ✓ Visible mold on walls, ceilings, or under sinks (limited area)
  • ✓ Moisture trapped from condensation, high humidity, or minor flooding
  • ✓ Removing and replacing a limited section of softened drywall
  • ✓ Minor repairs after the moisture issue is resolved

✗ Outside Our Scope

  • ✗ Major flooding events affecting multiple rooms or stories
  • ✗ Sewage backup or Category 3 water (biohazard)
  • ✗ Fire damage or smoke restoration
  • ✗ Large-scale mold remediation requiring containment
  • ✗ Large-loss insurance claims and major structural reconstruction

What Light Restoration Looks Like in Practice

These are the kinds of jobs we handle regularly — small enough for one crew, big enough to cause real damage if left alone.

Black mold growing on white interior wall
Bathroom Mold & Drywall Cleanup Visible mold on drywall — affected section removed, surfaces treated with antimicrobial, wall patched and primed.
Moisture and water damage on interior wall surface
Moisture Damage — Pipe Leak Cleanup Slow leak behind kitchen cabinet — dehumidifier placed, moisture monitored over several days, damaged material removed and replaced.
Peeling paint on damaged ceiling from water damage
Ceiling Water Damage & Repair Upstairs leak softened ceiling drywall — dried, damaged section removed, new drywall installed, texture matched and painted.
Water dripping and wet floor from pipe leak water damage
Moisture-Damaged Flooring Laundry room floor stayed wet too long — warped boards removed, subfloor dried and treated, new flooring installed.
FAQ

Common Questions About Water Damage and Mold Cleanup

How do I know if my situation is within your scope?+
Call us and describe what you’re seeing — when the water appeared, how large an area is affected, and whether the moisture source has been stopped. We’ll give you an honest initial read on the phone, and if it sounds like our kind of job, we’ll come out for a site assessment before committing to any work.
Can you tell me if I have a mold problem?+
We can assess visible mold growth — surface mold you can see on walls, ceilings, or under cabinets — and give you a practical evaluation of what cleanup involves. We don’t perform mold testing or air quality sampling. If you need a formal mold assessment, that requires a certified industrial hygienist.
Does the water source need to be fixed before you can help?+
Yes, always. Cleaning up moisture damage while the source is still active is pointless and potentially unsafe. We’ll confirm the leak or moisture source is resolved before placing dehumidifiers or starting cleanup. If you’re not sure whether it’s fixed, we can help evaluate during the site visit.
What does ‘light restoration’ mean in practical terms?+
It means the scope of damage is small enough to be handled without large crews, industrial containment, or insurance adjuster coordination. A closet with mold from a slow pipe drip. A bathroom ceiling softened by a leak from upstairs. A laundry room floor that stayed wet too long. These are light restoration situations. A basement that took on two feet of water is not.
Will you refer me out if the job is too big?+
Yes, directly and without hesitation. If we arrive and the scope is beyond what we handle safely and well, we’ll tell you on the spot. We’d rather lose the job than do work that doesn’t actually solve your problem.
